National Cooperation Climate Centres

KIN is the driving force behind a growing national cooperation between (university) climate centres, aimed at strengthening coordination and cooperation amongst knowledge institutions working on climate transitions. As KIN-Hubs, a number of climate centres work together to build regional networks, capacity and skills for facilitating climate transitions.

The Netherlands has a large number of (university) climate centres and institutes. Since 2024, nine climate centres have been meeting periodically in a national consultation chaired by prof. Dr. Caroline Katsman, Academic Lead Climate Science at the KIN.

KIN initiated this consultation in 2024 to stimulate more collaboration to jointly tackle challenges, learn from each other to address urgent climate issues in society, and better facilitate transformative, transdisciplinary collaboration. At the end of 2025 KIN initiated the concept of KIN-hubs, where a group of climate centers work together to develop a common training modules, and best practices on how to best support climate transitions.
